Quad biking is the most popular adventure activity on the coast north of Agadir — and for good reason. On a one-hour guided ride across the Timlalin Dunes you climb sandy crests, cross wide open plains and stop at viewpoints where the dunes meet the Atlantic. Here is everything first-time riders should know.

Why ride quads at Timlalin?

Many quad tours around Agadir take place on dusty tracks or flat ground. The Timlalin Dunes offer the real thing: golden sand, rolling ridges and ocean panoramas, about an hour north of Agadir near Tamri. The combination of dunes and sea makes the ride as scenic as it is exciting.

What happens on the ride

  • Welcome and safety briefing: your guide explains the controls — throttle, brakes and how to handle sand
  • A short practice so you feel comfortable before setting off
  • Around one hour of guided riding across the dunes and sandy plains
  • Stops at viewpoints for photos and to take in the Atlantic coastline
  • Return to the meeting point, usually covered in a fine layer of sand

Riding on sand: tips for beginners

Sand behaves differently from a road: it shifts under the wheels and slows you down in softer patches. Keep a steady throttle rather than accelerating and braking sharply, look ahead rather than at the front wheels, and follow the line chosen by your guide. The guide adapts the pace to the group, so beginners never need to feel rushed.

What to wear

  • Closed shoes — trainers are perfect
  • Sunglasses or goggles to keep sand out of your eyes
  • A scarf or buff to cover your nose and mouth when riding behind others
  • Clothes you do not mind getting dusty
  • Sunscreen, even on cloudy days
