Dune activities are designed to be enjoyed by beginners, and a little common sense goes a long way. These practical tips cover the sun, the wind and each type of activity, so you can relax and focus on having fun at Timlalin.

Sun and heat

Sand reflects sunlight, and the sea breeze can hide how strong the sun really is. Apply high-factor sunscreen before you arrive, wear a hat and sunglasses, and drink water regularly even if you do not feel thirsty. In summer, choose a morning or late-afternoon slot — our guide to the best time to visit explains why.

Wind and sand

On windy afternoons, fine sand blows across the dunes. Sunglasses or goggles protect your eyes, and a scarf or buff over your nose and mouth makes breathing more comfortable. If sand gets in your eyes, do not rub them — rinse with clean water.

Quad and buggy safety

  • Listen carefully to the briefing before setting off
  • Wear closed shoes and use any protective equipment provided
  • Follow your guide's line and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front
  • Keep a steady speed — avoid sharp braking or accelerating on soft sand
  • Tell your guide if you want to slow down at any time

Sandboarding safety

  • Start on gentler slopes and ride sitting down until you feel confident
  • Check that the run is clear before you set off
  • When you fall, sit back rather than putting your hands out in front
  • Move out of the run quickly at the bottom

Around the camels

Hold on firmly as the camel rises and kneels, keep your feet in position and follow the handler's instructions. Avoid walking directly behind camels and do not feed them without asking.

Choose a guided experience

All TimlalinTrip activities are led by local guides who know the dunes, the conditions and the safest routes. Before you book, it is worth asking what is included and what the safety arrangements are — our guide to choosing your activity lists useful questions. If you have a health condition, injury or pregnancy, mention it in your enquiry so we can advise which activities are suitable.
