Best Things to Do near Agadir Beyond the Beach
From dune adventures to surf villages and mountain valleys — the best experiences within easy reach of Agadir.

Agadir is famous for its long sandy beach and year-round sunshine, but some of the region's most memorable experiences lie just outside the city. Within an hour's drive you can ride quads across golden dunes, watch surfers in Taghazout, swim in mountain pools or look out over the bay from a hilltop kasbah. Here are our favourite ideas.
Ride across the Timlalin Dunes
About an hour north of Agadir, the Timlalin Dunes rise right beside the Atlantic. It is the closest place to Agadir where you can experience genuine golden dunes, and a highlight of many trips. Choose between a one-hour quad biking tour, a side-by-side buggy ride or simply racing down the slopes on a sandboard.

Ride a camel by the ocean
A camel ride is one of the most iconic experiences in Morocco. At Timlalin, the 40-minute ride crosses golden sand with the ocean never far away — an unusual and very photogenic combination of desert and sea.
Watch the sunset with mint tea
Few things beat watching the sun sink into the Atlantic from the top of a dune. Sunset tea at Timlalin brings together Moroccan hospitality and one of the most beautiful views on the coast, and it can be followed by a traditional dinner in the dunes.
Explore a hidden canyon
Near the dunes, a short guided canyon walk leads between wind- and water-carved rock walls. It is a surprising change of scenery and a favourite with photographers.
Spend a day in Taghazout
The former fishing village of Taghazout, around 20 km north of Agadir, is now one of Morocco's best-known surf destinations. Take a beginner surf lesson, watch experienced surfers at the famous point breaks or enjoy fresh fish on a terrace above the waves. It also makes a convenient stop on the way to the dunes.
Swim in Paradise Valley
In the foothills of the High Atlas, inland from Aourir, Paradise Valley is a palm-lined gorge with natural rock pools. It is a popular half-day trip, especially in warm weather, and offers a green contrast to the coast. Go early to avoid the busiest hours.
Look over the bay from Agadir Oufella
The ruins of the old kasbah of Agadir Oufella sit on a hill above the port. The site offers panoramic views over the bay and the modern city that was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake. Sunset is a lovely time to visit.
Browse the Souk El Had
Agadir's large walled market, the Souk El Had, is the place to discover spices, argan products, fruit, ceramics and everyday Moroccan life. Take your time, bargain politely and enjoy the atmosphere.
